The game won't register an attack while you sprint (at least for the minigame), so don't use it. You do need them to reach 300 points, so you have to learn to quickly select them and press 3 eventually.
Keeping the combo going is more important. They remain on the field for quite some time, so don't worry if you can't catch them immediately. There are two zeppelins that spawn (sometimes a third about 10 or 5 seconds before the time is up). It's ok to skip attacking a target dummy target one or two times. Be sure to jump properly over them, or do two in quick succession to keep the combo going. The fences can be a bit finicky at times. Keep up the combo and you'll score enough regular points. The bonus from jumping over the fences stack. Here are a few tips to make things easier on your end:
